Celebrate the Caldecott Medal's 75th anniversary!

Randolph Caldecott lived here

It's time to celebrate 75 years of distinguished picture books!

The Caldecott Medal was established in 1937, and first awarded in 1938.  Now, in 2012 through 2013, the Caldecott 75th Anniversary Task Force has prepared a slew of special Caldecott-related events and activities to include everyone in the celebration. An outline of activities can be found here, and includes a series of webinars, starting on Tuesday May 8th, 2012 with "Caldecott Uncovered: What You’ve Always Wanted to Know About the Caldecott Medal" with Rita Auerbach (sign up before it fills up!); a special Breakfast for Bill Program at the ALSC National Institute featuring Caldecott-honored illustrators Kevin Henkes, Denise Fleming and Eric Rohman; an online gallery, a special issue of Children & Libraries magazine, and more!  The celebration will culminate at the ALA Annual Conference in 2013, including a preconference devoted to the Caldecott. Make sure to follow the ALSC blog and Facebook for updates as the celebration unfolds.

We also hope you’ll spread the news of the celebration far and wide.  In spirit, the Caldecott Medal belongs to more than just ALSC.  Are you a member of AASL, IRA, NCTE, or other professional organizations that might be interested in knowing about the anniversary, and holding their own programs or campaigns to celebrate the award?   Please contact Nina Lindsay, the Caldecott 75th Anniversary Task Force Chair with your ideas, and please share announcements of the celebration with your local colleagues and community.

Looking forward to seeing you online and in person at one of these many celebrations.
