A teacher recently forwarded Kevin O'Malley an email from a parent she received concerning his school visit. We hear all the time what a great job he does in schools, but this email says it best:
Dear (teacher's name),
I wanted to thank you for having Kevin O'Malley visit (school's name). I have two boys Matt (6th grade) and John (3rd grade) and every night at dinner we talk about their school day. The conversation lasts 5 minutes as we try to engage in how the day went. Well the day that you had the author/illustrator speak to the class my boys actually talked nonstop for over 30 minutes even trying to out-talk one another over showing us the illustrations Mr. O'Malley did for them as well as demonstrating his magic tricks. They did four illustrations, 2 magic tricks and talked about how Mr. O'Malley started out drawing. He left a great impression on the kids and I have no doubt they will remember his visit for a long time as they are telling and showing the illustrations to their grandparents over Skype.
I truly think it was one of the best days and presentations they had. I hope you bring him back again! My husband and I will always remember that dinner when the boys came alive discussing the great author they saw at school.
If you would like to learn more about Kevin O'Malley's presentations, please visit the Balkin Buddies website or send us an email.
On Sunday, June 3, at 3:00 pm, Nicholasa Mohr will celebrate the opening of a new bookstore, La Casa Azul, in Spanish Harlem by reading from her classic novel about life as an immigrant in New York City, NILDA. This was the author's first novel, launched 44 years ago, and it has never been out of print.
